My first memories of Hello Kitty were back in the early 90s with an adorable little show called Hello Kitty and Friends which aired on YTV here in Canada! They were a series of short episodes based on popular fairytales – like Snow White and my favourite Alice and Wonderland. Do you remember this?!?
I remember waking up BRIGHT and early to catch them and one of my strongest childhood memories was being absolutely terrified of the Big Clock episode!
Sanrio has been dousing the world in PURE KAWAII CUTENESS since the 1970s, and despite being a lifelong fan, I only started avidly collecting Hello Kitty stuff back in 2015/2016. Before that you’ll be surprised to know that I was living a very frugal minimalist life (I’ve really made up for it since then ;))!
I think I have a couple of hundred Kitty (and and her friends!) items now – from purses, plushies, stationery, to my microwave, books, and a toilet paper cover… anything you can IMAGINE (I’ll catalogue it all eventually)! She’s an icon for positivity and fills me with pure nostalgic happiness and makes it impossible to have a bad day anymore!
So are you ready to fall down the rabbit hole into her cute little world?!
It was-52 degrees (that’s in celsius!) with windchill this morning, so I was kind of dressed up like the Pillsbury Dough Boy in all my layers rather than my usual floofy fancy-free self!
So to add the FUN to my outfits even when it’s dreary, I’ve been making more handmade brooches! I had previously showed off my Pie Day pie, and rainbow, but I’ve been busy creating all sorts since!
I like matching these guys to my outfits or even those silly “internet” holidays that are constantly trending on Twitter (I like using this website as you can always tell what “holidays” you should be celebrating!) just to make myself and other people happy!
Yesterday I made a quick little sunshine friend to hopefully remind people to BE HAPPY!
Outside my window is ridiculously, no good, oh so freezing, why do I live here – COLD!!! Everybody is daydreaming about getting away to a hot sandy beach far far away to escape the cold. Me, I’m not such a big fan of hot either – but a trip to a magical land of CANDY is much more my thing!
One of my favourite artists and a big sweet-toothed inspiration of mine is the installation artist PIP AND POP. Pip and Pop (also known as Australian artist Tanya Schultz) creates entire worlds filled with candy, sparkly rainbow sugar, and complete and utter HAPPINESS that transport you back to the carefree days of your childhood when your teeth just ACHED from FAR TOO MANY SWEETS and there was endless possibility!
You can’t help but wanting to build a little house on the foot of a towering glittering sugar sweet mountain! Let’s GO!
I started a new project this week dedicated to one of my longest obsessions – POKEMON! I had this crazy idea to create all of the Pokemon in teeny tiny feltie form.
Here are the starters… Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle and their evolutions!
I’m hoping to get about one feltie friend done a day, and then will be done in six months (or so!) Right now, I’m just doing the original 151… because there are currently 721 Pokemon and that would take a LIFETIME!!
I’m going to try and post my adventures in felt Pokemon every Friday… so hello Feltie Friday!
