My Super Sweet Knit Gingerbread House

I didn’t get up to quite as much Christmas baking as I did last year – which I think people are thankful for (my mom still had stuff in the freezer until like April)!! Instead, I turned to a much healthier option: yarntastic treats!

My big goodie this year was the gingerbread house I knit-baked for my Oma. I really enjoyed creating a real one last year and ended up giving it to her to enjoy so I thought creating a permanent one would be fun.Let’s take a look!

The pattern was based on this one by Frankie Brown – which I tweaked a bit, because I’ll admit, I’m not a great pattern follower (what’s life without whimsy?!) :D.

The house is covered from top to bottom in sugary treats, friendly Christmas friends (a snowman and gingerbread man), and gifties and goodies galore.

I started this project back in November and thought it was only going to take a couple of days… hahaha! Then I ran out of yarn and had to order some more – which turned into a weeks-long journey of tracking my package heading back and forth aimlessly across the country. Of course, the one thing that I needed got LOST! Eventually the yarn got to me and I finished it up late into the evening before it was to get delivered.

I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Oma absolutely loves it, and can’t wait to visit it in a few months for post-COVID late Christmas celebrations!
