The Super Sweet World of Hello Kitty Appliances!

If you’ve followed me for a while, you might have seen I have a kitchen stuffed full of super cute Hello Kitty appliances!

I started collecting Hello Kitty seriously in 2016, and when I found out you could get kitchen appliances with Kitty’s face on them, there was no other option! Here are my thoughts on her world of kitchen cute-ture:

Coffee Maker

I only started drinking coffee last summer, so I didn’t really see the use of having a proper coffee maker… But now that I’m a caffeine aficionado, Kitty helps me out doing the brew! This coffee maker is small ~ which is perfect for just one coffee drinker like me!

Toaster

I make toast or a bagel every single day in the toaster, and it does its job! You do have to crank the dial to the max to see Kitty’s face appear on the bread, but it makes your day when she does pop up on your toast!

Waffle Maker

I’ve only used the waffle maker a couple times, because honestly it’s HORRENDOUS to clean. It needs to be done by hand, because obviously electrical appliances cannot be placed in the water. But the waffles are ADORABLE!

There is a similar Pancake Maker which I’ll pick up if I can find it at a super reasonable price, but it’s probably a bit redundant to have a waffle and pancake maker since they are pretty much the same thing (EEK! This seems like it could be controversial ;))

Chocolate Maker

I was fortunate to thrift the Chocolate Maker because it’s $30 to buy new! In my opinion, not really worth the price tag. I pretty much just use the container as storage, but the chocolate moulds are great.

Water Dispenser

I’ll admit that I have only filled this up with water a handful of times, as it’s a bit of a pain. There isn’t a plug at the bottom so you need to carefully fill it up and maneuver it to flip it upside down which is far more trouble than it’s worth for ~8 cups of water. Additionally, I typically drink soda water (or iced coffee lately!) so it’s not really something very practical to me. But the dispenser looks cute!

On my wishlist:

Microwave

I’ve had my eye on the microwave for a few years, but have had trouble finding one that will ship to Canada at a reasonable price. The microwave is TINY and has very small wattage (700 watts), but perfect if you are living in a small apartment with size restraints and only heat things up occasionally (which is not me… I freeze and defrost literally everything!)

Rice Cooker

Hand Mixer

Popcorn Maker

And there are mini fridges, toaster ovens, vacuums, sandwich makers… She has a whole culinary empire!!

If you cook on any serious basis, these definitely aren’t appropriate tools. But as statement pieces, they make your kitchen experiences super kawaii!

My March Favourites!

🍀 Happy March! 🍀 It’s been a very busy and tiring month for me with work, so I haven’t been able to blog much, unfortunately! But in the spirit of the month, I’m feeling incredibly lucky to be healthy and happy. 🙂 I wanted to share some of my favourite ~lucky~ things from March with you all:

TV Shows: Kim’s Convenience (CBC – now on Netflix), which is a hilarious and heartwarming show about a Korean family in Toronto who runs a convenience store. It takes a couple of episodes to get into, but you’ll fall head over heels for them. Ok see you!!

And I’m binging Nailed It! (Netflix) as we speak – as a brand new season of the best worst baking show just dropped!! Okay, not such a filled-with-luck kind of show.

Food: I’ve been enjoying these Jumbo Veggie Dogs (vegan) from Yves Veggie Cuisine! They taste just like the real thing according to my carnivore Dad and Brother.

Also discovered a brand new world thanks to Torani Coffee Syrups! They come in dozens of delicious flavours – my favourites so far being French Vanilla, Salted Caramel, and especially for this month: Irish Cream! I like to add them to my ice coffee, but work on hot coffee, ice cream, whatever! Hard to go back to “plain” coffee now!

March 14th was Pi Day! Sadly, made no pie (because I forgot to buy the ingredients :’)) Sugar, the margarine aficionado, was displeased.

Video Games: Animal Crossing, again! It’s the ONE YEAR anniversary of Animal Crossing New Horizons. I will soon share an in-depth catchup of my island!

Happy 1st Birthday, Cupcake Island!!

Websites: MyHeritage. I’ve been on a genealogy kick lately, which started with my 23andMe results in January. I have been building out my family tree and have learned so much about where my family has actually come from. You realize that these people aren’t just names and old years, but your family. I didn’t realize that my Dad’s side of the family (mostly) immigrated from Ireland to Canada in the 19th century – so this St. Patrick’s Day has even more meaning now.

Purchases: I’ve been redecorating my house a bit this year. I’m moving towards more of a shabby chic look, rather than the bright neons it’s been for many years!

I’ve been on the hunt for a nice floral area rug for my living room, and hit the jackpot with this beauty from Nourison (available on Amazon for $182 CAD)! I haven’t had a chance to take a picture of it in my living room yet as there is stuff everywhere (*blush*!) But the quality is surprisingly plush and lovely for the price tag.

Lots of changes around here and it’s getting bright and happy inside! Hope to share soon.

Love and luck, Erika and Sugar!! 🍀

Pretty pink living room makeover!

My house went fully PINK in 2017. Painting a house obscenely pink and HAPPY was something I wanted to do since I was a kid, and can confirm that it has been the best decision that I ever made!

I ended up picking a rather neon pink colour for my living room – which is Behr’s Gumball pink (even the name is DELICIOUS!) It’s gone through a couple of different versions over the past couple of years. But the best thing about paint is, it’s just PAINT! You can use it to colour and shape your world into whatever you want.

In the middle of the lockdown earlier this year, I ended up doing super fun striped accent wall!

Painting a striped wall is actually incredibly easy! Most of the time spent measuring and taping ~ the actual stripes took only a couple of minutes. But a striped wall is definitely a do-able weekend project (I managed to do it all by my little self in only a day)! Here’s a guide to walk you through.

I find myself enjoying my house more and more everyday~ especially important for being stuck inside for months straight!

Your house is an extension of YOU! Make it exactly the place your heart desires, and change it up constantly to make it more happy!

May Catch-up!

Apologies for the VERY delayed post – ack it’s the middle of… JUNE?! Here’s what I was up to in May!

  • I’ve been running like a mad woman – literally! I had a half marathon in early May and finished in a wicked personal best time (1:49)! Running has been most of my life actually! It’s been run, eat, sleep, repeat all in preparation for my full marathon *gasp* tomorrow?!?!?!
Sugar modelling my medal (and sweaty gear ;)) from my half!
  • It’s actually spring out now (we even had a few days well above THIRTY celsius!) so I’ve been spending a lot of time outside staring at the lovely cherry blossoms!
  • Started working on construction on my first dollhouse, which I’ve been spending weeks sanding, construction, priming, painting… making an entire mess of my room and have been loving it! I really missed being creative and coating everything in PINK!
  • I also got inspired to finally get back to working on decorating my actual house!
  • After a few years, I finally got CURTAINS! My big dollhouse finally looks like a real dollhouse now! Which that cat has not destroyed yet (even I’m SHOCKED)!
  • Game of Thrones is actually DONE! Ahh! It’s been so long since I’ve been invested in a show like that (like so many people!) No spoilers here, but I really liked how it ended.
  • I started watching The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt to fill in the gap! Definitely NOT the same genre, but it was time for something hilarious.
  • After years and years of hmming and hawing, I bought my very first Takara Neo Blythe doll (I’m planning a proper post soon… but I’m just beaming!)
  • And saw lots and lots of rainbows!
This was at 6 am on what seemed like a super glum day! The universe always knows what you need 🙂

Hope to be a bit more active here on the blogosphere once running is done! I feel the creative bug biting again and need to put all that spare time to use! 😀

Pink house tour! My sweet dreamy bedroom!

Nothing like Springy weather to really motivate you to CLEAN the cave you’ve been stuck in all winter! I spent last weekend pushing furniture and cleaning up the condo and for the first time I really feel like the vision of my place is coming true!

I moved my computer out of my bedroom and into the living room, and with all that extra room I finally got a… bed!

Say WHAT?! I’ve been sleeping on a futon for the past SIX years (it seemed like an awesome thing to do in my early twenties!) My first night in a bed was surprisingly comfier than being stuffed into the edge of a lumpy futon! I even FINALLY got the canopy I’ve had for ages up and it looks majestic in here! Anyways, without further adieu, please take a look at my oh so organized pretty in pink bedroom!

All this bed space to spread out is Sugar approved!
Super happy to finally have room to spread out some of the collectables!
Gotta say this is my favourite corner! Got everything I need within arms reach!
