I spent ALL morning in the kitchen baking again and I *think* I’ve got all my Christmas goodies done for this year (if only because I don’t have an inch of freezer or cupboard space left!) So favourite foods seems like the perfect prompt for today!! Let me tell you… I have a MAJOR sweet tooth! All my trips to the dentist as a kid are proof of that!
Here are my top ten favourites:
Waffles (with extra extra butter and syrup!)
Bagels – I usually add sprinkles for extra fun!
Cupcakes – the more frosting the better!
Ice cream sandwiches – the best kind of sandwich for sure! I made this one from a recipe from the Hello Kitty Baking Book (link to Amazon)!
Fish and Chips – so yummy and greasy! This is from my favourite little restaurant – Fergie’s Fish N Chips
Strawberries – so sweet and good for you! Especially with whipped cream!
Pizza – I LOVE pizza and don’t think I could ever get sick of it. It’s one of my favourite things to cook too! I made this Pikachu Pizza a couple years ago (with vegan cheese!)
Japanese sweets! – They’re so yummy and very different! My favourites are Sakupan (adorable chocolate panda cookies), Strawberry Pocky, and anything ramune (it’s a bubbly lemon-limey flavour)!
December is just FLYING by! We’re half way through the month and in just 10 days it will be Christmas, and then EEK 2019 is just around the corner. I’ve been busy, busy, busy. I’ve been baking tons – made yet another batch of cookies and walked all the way to and from the store today. STILL have one final (ha!) round of baking tomorrow for my bake exchange at work on Monday. Then gift shopping, and finishing up some knitted gifts, PLUS a new found obsession with Ru Paul’s Drag Race. Phew! I could use a vacation. Today’s prompt is about just that!
Growing up, my family travelled from coast to coast in Canada in an RV, (I’ve been everywhere but Newfoundland and the Territories!) and I have incredibly fond memories of visiting a good chunk of this very very big, very very pretty place. My favourite trip of all time has to be when my parents, brother, and cousins travelled to visit my family in Nova Scotia!
We spent two weeks driving over 3,500 kilometers (2,000 miles for you American folks!) stopping at all sorts of random campsites, poutine shops, a monastery, tried to escape rush hour Montreal in a 35 foot long RV, and making many wrong turns to get to the little Nova Scotia town of Parrsboro.
Parrsboro is a cute little seaside town surrounded by oceans, cliffs, and blueberry farms, and is known for having the highest tides in the world! It’s just a very different way of life over there – life moves slow and everyone in town knows everybody else, which is SO different from how hectic life is now. I remember watching the tide come in for the first time ever and falling in LOVE and never wanting to leave.
I hope to one day go back, and perhaps when I’m an old lady I’ll buy one of the cute little character homes by the sea and paint it PINK as well!
This has always been one of my favourite things to learn about people… What’s in your bag used to be a huge feature on personal webpages back in the 90s/early 2000s, and probably what got me fully obsessed with the internet in the first place. I just think it’s really an interesting personal look at what people behind the screen are really like!
I really looove novelty handbags (especially delicious looking ones)! I have so many, even though I tend to stick with the exact same one for months at a time. They’re fun for coordinating outfits and scream FUN!
But right now, this is the bag that I’m using for work:
It’s not quite as fun on the outside (but it is VERY pink as strangers tell me all the time!). At least the insides are full of excitement:
Hello Kitty wallet and phone case (who else?!)
My little donut pouch holds bobby pins and other doo-dads
Lipchap, lipchap, and an extra lipchap! I’m addicted
Hair bows, clips, and hair ties
My work ID and sparkly pink lanyard (yes, I’m the buildings pink girl)
Candy, candy, candy. These are some yummy Japanese sweets I got from my absolute favourite shop.
The bottom of the bag (fortunately I didn’t dump it out!) is a ton of loose change, more bobby pins, hair ties, and who else knows what!
There are just TWO WEEKS until Christmas! I am both SO EXCITED and SO RUSHED because I have so much to squeeze in. Bake exchange at work, baking for family dinners, baking my favourites for ME to snack on! Shortbread is my all time favourite Christmastime snack, especially because it’s so easy to make on a whim with ingredients you almost certainly already have!
And with chocolate chips and sprinkles, even happier!
What you need: 1 cup of Butter – room temperature 1/2 cup Icing Sugar – sifted 1 1/2 cup of Flour 1/4 cup Cornstarch 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon of Vanilla 1/2 cup of Chocolate Chips and/or Sprinkles (I choose to add both for extra colour!)
How to make them: 1. Preheat oven to 325°F and grease cookie sheets 2. With an electric blender mix the butter and icing sugar until quite fluffy. Then add in the flour, cornstarch, salt, and vanilla until everything is combined. Hand mix your chocolate chips and sprinkles. 3. Scoop your dough out with a spoon (balls should be about golf ball sized) onto your greased cookie sheets, and flatten with a fork. Add extra sprinkles to the top. The recipe makes ~36 cookies 4. Bake for 15 minutes. Cookies just be just barely golden when you pull them out of the oven. Let them cool (if you can!)
These cookies are so fluffy and yummy. I personally like to throw them in the freezer and think they taste even better somehow when they are chilly. Enjoy! xox
