It seems that I’ve drunk a potion and grown a bit since yesterday! Down this rabbit hole, everything is just a little wacky, whimsical, and not quite what it’s supposed to be!
You see, I’m thirty-one today! Hard to believe! When I was younger, I watched those thirty-something sitcom parents and thought being in your thirties meant the end of fun, and you were expected to wear a pressed suit and follow every rule to a tee. Honestly, THOSE thirties sound like a drag. I went a different way!
Instead here in my 31st year, I decided to bake an upside-down unbirthday cake and lick the spatulas, dance around the living room being judged by my cat, and taking a nap (pandemic lockdown or not, this is what I WANT to be doing)!
Perhaps this doesn’t look like thirty-one for most. But creating silly things, wearing bright dresses and pink and purple wigs, and jumping around my condo to some happy fun pop music IS thirty-one for me!
There are no rules for age so don’t be afraid to get older (whether you’re 13, 56, or 99)! It just means you have spent a lot more time doing what you love. The fact that some people don’t know how to have let others have fun means THEY might need to do a little growing up!
So bake a cake, make a little magic, dance around, play that game, take a nap! Life’s too short to be that beige, boring adult. Just be exciting adult you!

My sweet furry child turned TWO years old on Tuesday! Sugar’s name and the fact that her birthday is so close to Valentine’s (February 11th) made a theme for the party super simple: SWEETS! And what’s more sweet than being two years old (get it? TWO sweet)?!
Fortunately decorating an entertaining a two year old kitty is far simpler than two year olds of the people variety! But I still wanted a day of fun and love~
The tablecloth was from Dollarama and reminds me of the decor at a little sweets shop! I cut out the banner out of felt; all in pink except for the occasional donut and ice cream.
I also bought a ton of cheap valentine’s candy and decorated my place with them! All the guests were able to take home a loot bag full of even more sugary sweet treats!
This little pink cake was made using the Wilton Ombre cake recipe! It’s just a very simple white cake recipe~ but oh so delicious! The insides were coloured in layered pink ombre cake.
The cake is covered in pink buttercream, piped on with a star tip. And the ears, eyes, and pink heart nose were made out of white melting chocolate which I carefully poured with a spoon! The whiskers were made in a similar way but with dark chocolate darkened further with violet food gel!
There was a fair bit of buttercream and cake left over from cutting off the crowns, so I used the remainder to make chocolate dipped cake pops! They always go over super well especially if somebody doesn’t want to say they had a whole slice of cake!
The cake is small (5″) but is incredibly sweet and it’s enough to fill up 6-8 people with a generous serving of pure goodness.
Sugar had a blast, and promptly fell asleep on the table shortly after trying to steal all the buttercream she could! 😀
…My 30th Birthday Party that is ~ but worry not, no tears here!!
It has been an AMAZING day so far. I got up this morning really early (as usual… I love mornings!) and immediately started baking my very own cake. It’s pink, sugary, sprinkled, and filled with RAINBOWS! Just like thirty should be!
As the cake cooled off, I went outside and did a long run in the cold (brr!) to make room for more cake and treats.
When I got back it was time to blow up balloons, snack around, cuddle the kitty, wear a poofy dress, and blast some fun 90s tunes. Which was the most perfect day!
I celebrated my birthday with my family the other day (one of those being a Christmas Baby things!), so this day is just about ME and that’s perfectly fine and fun! I got some hot pink towels, pink chocolate molds, a pink blanket (I think people know me pretty well?!), and my gift to myself was the Polly Pocket 30th Anniversary Set (I’m working on a longer review post)!
I have to say it was a day that was completely different than what I thought 30 would be like even just a couple of years ago (and what society thinks it should be like!) Not sure why there seems to be a view that as soon as you turn a certain age (30 for instance!) that you need to stop dressing a certain way, stop enjoying things, or stop having fun. In my three decades on this planet, I’ve learned not to worry what other people think.
Yes, it’s so cliche, but life goes by too fast to be what other peoples’ vision of 30 is. Just be YOU and have fun on this fun little ride!!
