Knitted Mood Blanket for 2020!

I’ve seen crocheted and knitted mood blankets on Pinterest and Instagram and knew I had to join in this year!!

I think they’re more common in the crochet community, but you don’t want to see my crochet right now! So my mood blanket is going to be knitted. This will be a massive project that will have me clicking needles each and every day of the year! The idea is simple: each day I assess my mood and knit a corresponding coloured square. In a year, I’ll be able to see how the year went and have a pretty colourful blankie to celebrate!

I didn’t have an easy start with this project unfortunately! My original plan was to knit a row a day, changing colours each day for a year. But on my VERY first row (240 stitches cast on!) my round needles broke. And not just once – but TWICE! But I was way too excited about having a multi-coloured rainbow blanket in a year, that there was no way I was giving up!! I’ve changed plans because obviously the universe was trying to tell me something! I’m now knitting one square a day, and then will join the squares together into a large blanket.

Each of these squares is 4 inches x 4 inches. CO 12 stitches with super bulky yarn and knit until 4 inches. The rows of the blanket will be 19 squares x 19 squares (361 days) therefore a massive 6 feet across!!

My colours and moods are as follows:

Red (Lion Brand Hometown USA – Cincinatti Red) ~ Anxiety

Orange (Lion Brand Hometown USA – Syracuse Orange) ~ Content / Okay

Yellow (Lion Brand Hometown USA – Pittsburgh Yellow) ~ Energetic / Athletic

Green (Lion Brand Hometown USA – Green Bay) ~ Tired / Sick

Blue (Lion Brand Hometown USA – Maui Aqua) ~ Sad

Turquoise (Lion Brand Hometown USA – Miami Seafoam) ~ Family / Rejuvenated

Purple (Lion Brand Hometown USA ~ Minneapolis Purple) ~ Happy!

Pink (Lion Brand Hometown USA – Hot Pink) ~ Creative / Productive

I’ll share updates along the way!

Feel free to use this as a basis for your own mood blanket (or temperature blanket, or to measure WHATEVER!)

2019 in Review!

HAPPY LAST DAY OF 2019! And last day of the DECADE to boot!

Wow has so much changed for me in the past year ~ in great ways! I started the year so excited to create a bright happy life for myself, and am ending it even more positive about everything! The middle was stuffed with great stuff too. Here’s some of what I accomplished!

One year ago! Started off dressed like a rainbow. I dressed colourfully every single day and had random strangers tell them my outfits made them happy 😀
My sweet kitty Sugar celebrate her first birthday and we celebrated with a big bash! She doesn’t look thrilled here, but she was spoiled with attention so she wasn’t complaining!
Spent a big chunk of the year knitting, felting, and learning new things! I ran out of time so I didn’t get to create quite as much as I hoped.
Built and painted an adorable dollhouse from a kit! Still needs to be decorated on the inside, but that’s a 2020 project!
Ran and finished my first FULL MARATHON! A lot of my year was spent training and well making up the burned calories lol.
Bought my first Blythe dolls ~ a longtime dream!!
Baked for nearly a month straight for Christmas! This was my first go at decorating sugar cookies so a bit wobbly, but still adorable 😀
Made my pink house PINKER and cozier!
Most importantly, I had a ridiculous amount of FUN!!

And so much more! Hard to believe it has been 365 days! I really just want 2020 to be very similar – just happy, colourful, and creative! I think we can do it!

LET’S GO!!! Lots of love and best of luck to you all in 2020!! xoxo

Pompoms and plans plans plans!

What a first week of 2019!

I’ve been using a LOT of pompoms for my first week of craft a day 2019. They just seemed appropriate and fun to start out with because they remind me of PARTY TIME and HAPPINESS and that’s just how I want this year to go!

Pompom tights!

I simply hot-glued the colourful little guys (obviously not when I was wearing them!) to a thick pair of once unexciting tights and suddenly they became ready to join the circus!

And a garland! Sugar is also pompom fan!

Pompom garland is a super easy craft. All you need is a needle and thread. Just push the threaded needle through as many pompoms as you need for your garland, tie up the ends, and hang up!

Also a big fan!! 😉

I also added some pompoms to barrettes, headbands, bows, and really every other surface…!

Pompoms aside, I’ve been busy seeking out loads of craft ideas (hello Pinterest!) and making lists of things to create. Right now, plushie making is really calling me and I’m stitching up a new friend as I type!

But also as it turns out, a craft a day is a bit of an undertaking… especially because I’m working full time! So I do feel like I could really benefit from some sort of proper crafting challenge! But I can’t seem to find any such thing. Perhaps sometime this year I’ll write out some prompts because surely I’m not the only one doing something so silly and fun!

Day 27 of the 30 day blog challenge!

Day 27 – What’s In Your Closet

I’m so excited to share this with you!! I LOVE MY CLOSET. It doesn’t even have a door because I love looking at it so much!

A closet FULL of rainbows! I need more room!

Because it’s completely stuffed to the brim with colour and pretty dresses! I started exclusively wearing dresses about three years ago (it just sort of… happened) and got rid of every remaining piece of black in my wardrobe last year and haven’t looked back!

I mostly wear vintage inspired dresses (with mostly florals, polkadots, and cute yummy prints!) with either long sleeves, or a cardigan on top. And always with colourful tights (I have bins full of them)! My style is strongly influenced by Japanese and kawaii styles, and I have a couple of Lolita dresses (a Japanese clothing style which in turn is inspired by Rococo/Victorian fashion – with ruffles and petticoats and intricate details!) and hope to acquire a few more soon!

Here are some of the outfits that I’ve thrown together (as I mentioned previously, I don’t take all that many selfies, but I’m working on it! Some of my outfits are really fun and I want to show them off)!

One of my 2019 goals is to start sewing my own dresses because sometimes it’s hard to find vintagey things that I really like and having the freedom to wear what I have in my head would be amazing!

My closet also has a ton of hairbows, wigs, scarves, petticoats, piles and piles of cute socks, my novelty bag collection, a shelf full of candy (hahaha! always need it close by!), a spot for all my jewellery, my Hello Kitty hamper, and all my empty boxes for collectables (lots of Sailor Moon proplica boxes and Funkos up there!) There’s pretty much no room at all for anything else (but I will try ;))!

Day 8 of the 30 day blog challenge!

Day 8 – 5 Current Goals

1) BLOG EVERYDAY! I’m having a ton of fun with this blog so far and I want to keep it up. I also really want to make some new bloggy friends (so come say HI!)

2) SPREAD POSITIVITY! Life’s too short to be down… I want to coat the world in pure happiness! 😀

3) LEARN TO SEW! I bought a sewing machine and some pretty fabrics a few weeks ago, and I want to learn how to use it!

4) CREATE MORE! I want to continue creating my own colourful little world filled with knitted, sewed, and delicious stuff! The eventually goal is to able to start selling my goodies!

5) BE AS COLOURFUL AS POSSIBLE!  I want to add as much rainbowliciousness to every aspect of my life as possible!
