My March Favourites!

🍀 Happy March! 🍀 It’s been a very busy and tiring month for me with work, so I haven’t been able to blog much, unfortunately! But in the spirit of the month, I’m feeling incredibly lucky to be healthy and happy. 🙂 I wanted to share some of my favourite ~lucky~ things from March with you all:

TV Shows: Kim’s Convenience (CBC – now on Netflix), which is a hilarious and heartwarming show about a Korean family in Toronto who runs a convenience store. It takes a couple of episodes to get into, but you’ll fall head over heels for them. Ok see you!!

And I’m binging Nailed It! (Netflix) as we speak – as a brand new season of the best worst baking show just dropped!! Okay, not such a filled-with-luck kind of show.

Food: I’ve been enjoying these Jumbo Veggie Dogs (vegan) from Yves Veggie Cuisine! They taste just like the real thing according to my carnivore Dad and Brother.

Also discovered a brand new world thanks to Torani Coffee Syrups! They come in dozens of delicious flavours – my favourites so far being French Vanilla, Salted Caramel, and especially for this month: Irish Cream! I like to add them to my ice coffee, but work on hot coffee, ice cream, whatever! Hard to go back to “plain” coffee now!

March 14th was Pi Day! Sadly, made no pie (because I forgot to buy the ingredients :’)) Sugar, the margarine aficionado, was displeased.

Video Games: Animal Crossing, again! It’s the ONE YEAR anniversary of Animal Crossing New Horizons. I will soon share an in-depth catchup of my island!

Happy 1st Birthday, Cupcake Island!!

Websites: MyHeritage. I’ve been on a genealogy kick lately, which started with my 23andMe results in January. I have been building out my family tree and have learned so much about where my family has actually come from. You realize that these people aren’t just names and old years, but your family. I didn’t realize that my Dad’s side of the family (mostly) immigrated from Ireland to Canada in the 19th century – so this St. Patrick’s Day has even more meaning now.

Purchases: I’ve been redecorating my house a bit this year. I’m moving towards more of a shabby chic look, rather than the bright neons it’s been for many years!

I’ve been on the hunt for a nice floral area rug for my living room, and hit the jackpot with this beauty from Nourison (available on Amazon for $182 CAD)! I haven’t had a chance to take a picture of it in my living room yet as there is stuff everywhere (*blush*!) But the quality is surprisingly plush and lovely for the price tag.

Lots of changes around here and it’s getting bright and happy inside! Hope to share soon.

Love and luck, Erika and Sugar!! 🍀

♡ My February Favourites! ♡

Hope you have all enjoyed a super sweet February filled with floating hearts, delicious candies, and lots of love for yourself! Here were some of my favourite things over the past 28 lovely days.

TV Shows: The Office (US) – finally gave this one a go after apparently my coworkers have been relentlessly quoting this for years and I’ve been clueless! It looks dry and muted and WAY too much like my real office so maybe that’s what’s been keeping me away! It’s a fake docu-comedy like Parks & Rec, which is one of my favourites – and it’s a surprisingly nice escape for a show about well… office life!

Music: I’ve been on an indie-pop kick again and have been getting back into some of my favourite bands from 2013-ish like CHVRCHES, Bastille, Hurts, and Florence + the Machine… One of my current on repeats:

Food: Still eating vegan and LOVING IT! I would love to start being even more conscious about what I’m eating and make sure it’s sustainable and cruelty-free. My favourite go-to meals lately are this super Saucy Ramen Noodle recipe and vegan pizza – which uses soy cheese.

Video Games: Pokemon Shield ~ it honestly took me a really long time to get used to the play style and how linear the storyline is. But after a year, I’ve fallen in LOVE with it! It has amazing graphics (I know other people would beg to differ), and plays really well on the Switch’s tv features.

Websites: I have been spending a lot of this brutally cold winter on Duolingo learning German and Neopets Classic!

Purchases: Funko has released retro Barbie Funko Pops of three of the most popular Barbie dolls from the 80s. They are way too cute for words! Can’t wait for mine to ship because they will fit right in here at my little pink house!

My Favourite Games to Celebrate National Video Games Day!

Happy Video Games Day! It’s another one of those fun unofficial holidays, but I will never pass up a reason to celebrate!! I was first introduced to games by my uncle when I was 4 or 5 and spent hours just sitting there watching him beat Super Mario Bros. on the NES. I was completely sucked into the little pixel universes behind the tv and never looked back!

I love video games, but I’ll admit that I’m not very adventurous in finding new things to play! I tend to return to the same games I’ve enjoyed for decades, as you know you can’t go wrong!

These are my top go-to video games of all time!

Super Mario 64
This was the very first game that my brother and I got for the N64! I remember so many late nights spent begging my parents for just a couple more minutes to try and nab the stars for levels or trying to see if maybe there was a way to sneak to the top of the never-ending staircase (so much time…)! And of course that iconic soundtrack (crying at Dire Dire Docks forever!)

Pokemon
So much of my life has been influenced by Pokemon games! The series will forever be my favourite video game as it still holds incredibly strong memories for me more than 20 years since I first played! I love any game where I can collect, and even more so if it’s collecting cute creatures and kicking the butt out of anyone who gets in my way.
I tried to pick an absolute favourite in the series, but it’s hard! Blue was my first game, and nothing will beat those heart-pounding first playthrough memories! But Crystal, Ruby, Pearl, and spin off games like Pokemon Stadium and Snap hold special places in my heart!

The Legend of Dragoon
LOD was the very first Playstation game that I had ever actually seen. I remember watching my cousins play in about 2000, and fell head over heals with it and became a Playstation girl from that day on!
The game is an epic fantasy video game that starts as your standard guy needs to save a girl from a terrible mysterious hooded man, and then evolves in an incredibly layered story with an expansive universe and memorable characters. It’s always been a bit shocking to me that it never became that popular (as compared to Final Fantasy for instance), because there aren’t many other games that have as much depth or beautiful graphics.

Final Fantasy VIII
I randomly picked FF8 at the store when deciding how to spend my birthday money when I was 12, and had no idea that it would have such a big influence on my life! The game involves the adventures of Squall Leonhart, a cadet at a military school who needs to save the world from a time-compressing evil sorceress.
While all the other kids were obsessing over Hogwarts, I spent my early teens involved in a number of roleplays around the greatest school of them all – Balamb Garden – and it was a blast.
Last year, Square Enix released a remastered version with beautifully updated graphics (and yes, Squall you NOW are the most handsome guy here!)

Animal Crossing
Adorable talking animals? Cute clothes? A never ending mortgage pedalled by a half-naked raccoon?! Could be nothing other than Animal Crossing!
Animal Crossing for Gamecube is also what got me into journalling/blogging in the first place! I remember trying to explain blogging to my Dad so he could purchase me an account as you needed to pay to register back in the day. There used to be an incredibly vibrant AC community on Livejournal in the early 2000s where we would share photos of our towns taken with digital cameras – and it was amazing!
I’m still playing, most recently with Animal Crossing New Horizons and after almost 20 years the game still fills me with just as much happiness!

Other runners up are Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure, Harvest Moon, and Mario Kart!

Video games are such a fun way to unwind and fully escape into other worlds and be anyone you want to be! I love that there’s something out there for everyone. Now go forth and celebrate with your favourite games!
