New project: building my VERY first dollhouse!

I just bought a house! Well a tiny house. A dollhouse kit that is!

I had a whole bunch of miniature spaces and places that created a mismatched world as a kid: think of Polly Pockets hanging out with Barbie’s, Little People, and Lego houses! Hey, they made it work! Then growing up, the PC game The Sims came along and brought dollhouses to the digital world (with extra drama!) I loved creating lives I could never have for my tiny people and I credit those imaginative times with who I am today!

But I never had a dollhouse of my own. Now an adult, I’ve been gawking at pretty dollhouses for years and have been itching to fulfill my childhood dream and build one and fill it with tiny colourful furniture, adoreable re-ment items, and watch the equally tiny people go about their cute everyday lives. My real house was even inspired by my visions of cute pink dollhouses! Mind you, I didn’t think it would be SUCH a process (decorating my real house might just be easier!)

Just a tiny little four room house – quaint and cozy indeed!

I finally came across the Arthur by Greenleaf, which is considered a very good project for absolute beginners. Everything is included in the box except for the glue and the paint. The actual frame of the house can be thrown together in just a few hours, but the painting, details, and oh goodness – THE SHINGLES (!) are going to take a while.

Eventually it’s going to be painted… PINK (shocking, I know!) I’m going to share my building adventures here.

The inspectpurr checking it out 😉 It’s currently a “dry build” – meaning I’m putting the pieces together with tape instead of glue to make sure everything fits. But seems pretty sturdy!

In the meantime, here are some of my favourite dollhouses and miniaturists for inspiration!:

  • Pinkinparadise808 on Instagram is SUPER talented and decorates her massive Garfield (my ultimate dreamhouse!) in meticulous shabby chic decor! Her pics frequently pop up on Pinterest and they look SO legit that they are often mistaken for “real” decor!
  • I came across Beargarden on Flickr a few years ago which ignited my dreams for a cute pink dollhouse! It’s a home populated by bears and bunnies and filled with re-ment and adorable homemade furniture.
  • Robin Carey is one of the most “well known” dollhouse maker on the internet. They are so darn pretty and inspirational.
  • I’ve been spending a lot of time lately reading threads on The Greenleaf Dollhouse Forum. So many ideas, so little time!
