Happy Birthday Animal Crossing! It has been twenty years since the original game, Animal Forest (Dōbutsu no Mori), was released in Japan! I wrote a post back in September celebrating the 18th Anniversary of the North American release and my memories of the game.
Animal Crossing has been a HUGE part of my life, so I will take any reason to celebrate it! To join in the festivities, I wanted to share an update on my island since it’s been a FULL YEAR (!) since Animal Crossing New Horizons was released and I shared my last tour, so of course. A lot has changed on Cupcake Island! 2020 was a weird year for me so I played heavily after it was released, and then was just not motivated at ALL between June and November. Then December hit, and I haven’t really put my Switch down since!
My goal was make to island that’s tasty enough to eat! So Cupcake is filled with colourful sweets, chocolate, islands of ice cream, mountains of cake, gumdrop dunes, and my house is the cherry on top of the big name-sake cupcake in the middle! It’s a bit chaotic, but it makes me happy! 🙂 Here’s a little photo tour of the sugary sights…
And some of the highlights of the last year:
So there we go, my little happy place! Feel free to come and visit my Dream Address!
It’s been a while since I showed off Cupcake, my Animal Crossing New Horizons island. But I’ve been hard at work earning Bells and filling it to the brim with all sorts of sweet goodies!
So get your golden ticket out and lets get ready to enter the sugary candylicious world of Cupcake Island!!
I didn’t have any big plans or expectations of what my island would be other than sugary, fun, and happy! The island took on a life of it’s own and kind of turned into a scene out of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! There’s so much candy, colour, and well chaotic fun that I hope it makes Mr. Wonka proud! 😀
Let’s jump in! In the middle of the island is the big cupcake with all the shops and my house as the cherry on top!
Outside of the cupcake is all the fun islands (hard candy, ice cream, donuts, a creamsicle, lollipop, cookie and a sundae!) surrounded by colourful paths, chocolate mazes, fudge filled rivers including the “chocolate tube” (made of cliffs and waterfalls) from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory where Augustus Gloop lived my dream of being sucked up a tube of flowing chocolate!
My house is still pretty small right now, because I’ve spent most of my money on ramps and sweets! XD But here’s what it’s like right now.
I’ve even packed up a couple of treats to send you off on your way!
Thanks for coming by! If you’d like a personal tour, comment below and I’d be thrilled to have you over!
Hello friends!! As usual, I’m running LATE with my posts! Despite being inside pretty much the whole time, April just whizzed by!
I really want to seem like I’m nothing but rainbows and sugary sunshine, but thought I’d do some ~real talk~ about life and all that first. I’ve been working from home for two full months now, which has been mostly great. I save at least an hour each way on the commute, which has also helped tremendously with my anxiety. But I’ve also been pulling far longer hours at the virtual office which has been some *STRESSFUL* long days. At some points I feel like I’m the edge of burning out from my job. But I’m doing my best to find cheer in little things like baking, video games, and kitty snuggles and that really helps!
Now the days are longer and brighter and I’m learning to enjoy every moment at home because life will turn back to normal. Here’s some of how I passed the time in April!
The weather has been miserable, but I still found some rainbows (under a couple of feet of snow because I put out my doormat too early!! >.<)
I also made this delicious no bake cheesecake a few weeks ago! Recipe is from Tastemade 🙂
Sugar celebrated here second gotcha day on the 18th! Look how itty bitty she was two years ago!
I decided to repaint one of the walls in my living room, because I realized it was a bit too dark for space and needed a change! Now it’s a bright and airy lighter pink! There are more options for decorating now… think I might go a bit more shabby chic… but need to find new couches that match better!
And also did some spring cleaning on my spare room! Which has now turned into a craft and toy room!
I’m still knitting my mood blanket, but it’s really hard to find yarn and other supplies (seems like everyone else has the same crafty desires)! Amazon is out of most of my colours currently, so I’ll have a lot of catch up to do later on. But I’m still enjoying it! I’m also hoping to work on some sewing projects and maybe some perler beads soon now that I have the space!
And I’ve been spending a lot of time just unwinding playing video games!
Besides Animal Crossing which takes up most of my free time, I’ve been re-exploring the world of Final Fantasy 8 Remastered (usually with a kitty right in my face :D)!
So I’m certainly not bored and looking forward to even better days ahead! 🙂
Hope you and your loved ones are well and enjoying adventures of your own!
I can’t believe Animal Crossing New Horizons is here! After years and years of speculation on whether there would be a game, the game being pushed, and then countless wondering, the game is out and has been for a couple of weeks! I started writing this post the very afternoon that I got the game but had been a bit too exhausted (work and the of course COVID-19) to finish it up until now.
Because of the COVID-19 situation, I decided to digitally download the game instead of waiting for Amazon to ship it out (I had originally preordered from EBGames, but I’ve decided not to go out of course~ eventually I’ll go pick up the physical copy of the game and give it to my brother :)). The game couldn’t have come out at a better time for everyone given the COVID situation. Here’s what I’ve been up to on my sweet island of Cupcake!
Upon my arrival on Cupcake, I ended up getting the green airport and oranges, which weren’t my top selections – but what can you do! I decided to NOT reset the game, because I find that it really takes the fun out for me. I can collect the fruit and I’m hoping that there will be customization features for the airport sometime later (come on PINK FLOATPLANE!)
ACNH is a bit different from other games because you basically start with nothing and build up your own world by way of DIY projects. You find new DIY projects and then craft them by finding resources around your expansive island. It’s somewhat repetitive, but there really is NO obligation to actually do anything if you don’t want to! My kind of life!
Lately I’ve been tinkering around collecting all the cute pink things I can, getting ready to terraform (that’s right – you have the power to change land and water at your fingertips SO COOL!) my island into one big cupcake shape, and fishing up an absurd amount of… eggs in the Bunny Day Easter event.
My honest review is I really like this game. It’s probably one of my favourites out of the five main games in the series. I especially love the customization aspects of this game. The graphics are STUNNING (and here I was thinking New Leaf couldn’t possibly be beat XD)!! You can customize your character and their outfits, your island, and your home exactly as YOU want. There’s even a cat tree and a pink stand mixer so I can literally create ME in game. But fortunately unlike real life, you can do whatever you want and block out the bad things going on elsewhere. Why stress when you can talk to your animal pals, fish, catch bugs, or travel to other tropical islands to get away from it all (WATCH OUT FOR THE TARANTULAS THOUGH!!!)
But I’ve always been a SLOW player who shows up for a few minutes when I want to unwind (occasionally between checking my email – hurrah for #workfromhome ;)). But there is also the competitiveness in this game that I’m struggling with. I adore most of the people in the AC community. They are some of the most friendly, funny, creative people I’ve ever come across! While there isn’t a way to “beat” the game as your island is whatever you make for yourself, but it’s a bit exhausting to see fully landscaped islands filled to the brim with all sorts of carefully placed sparkly treasures that I ONE DAY hope to get my paws on! I’m just going to continue to have fun and relax with the series I’ve adored for most of my life. <3

PS I would love it if you added me as a friend and came to visit! SW-7166-2365-8220
If you’re like me, you’re inside and craving the sunshine, fun adventures, and a way to pass the time. Of course COVID-19 may be changing our travel plans and keeping us indoors, but don’t worry – Nintendo has your sunny warm island getaway desires covered with the release of Animal Crossing New Horizons for Nintendo Switch THIS FRIDAY!
New Horizons is another addition to the line of Animal Crossing games, that have been letting players talk to adorable animals since 2002! Like the other comforting games, you’ll be able to decorate your house, collect and catch fish and bugs, pay your debt to a generous raccoon and live your life as relaxed or busy as YOU want it to be!
My boarding pass to the cute Island of Cupcake is already to go! Click here to get your own ticket and passport ready at Dodo Airlines!
There’s still time to pre-order the digital copy from the Nintendo estore or physical copy from Amazon – so you don’t need to leave the house!
Sending out lots of love, and stay safe friends! <3
