Strawberry Cupcake Hats Forever!

It is minus 14 celsius with windchill right now, and snow is in the forecast for this afternoon! Winter is on definitely on its way~ but I’m not sour about it. In fact… I’m excited because I can top my outfits office with cute warm accessories!! To celebrate (I might be the only one!), I knitted myself a cute new toque. Cupcake themed, because what else could make you smile in the middle of a blizzard!?

This was a super quick knit that I worked on during my downtime at work yesterday. I opted for Super Bulky yarn which makes it really thick and toasty for Canadian winters. The toque is in three parts, which I did freestyle, or without a pattern: the liner, the frosting, and the strawberry, and then sewn up at the end.

The yellow cupcake liner is ribbed in Lion Brands’ Hometown Glory (Super Bulky) in Pittsburgh Yellow. I ended up knitting it short side down – so it ended up looking like a long skinny scarf just so I could get the exact length for my head.

The pink is Lion Brands’ Neon Pink. I think the colours are so delicious together! It’s then topped off with a bright red strawberry.

It may be chilly outside, but that shouldn’t stop you from dressing super sweet!

My Ravelry is here if you’re looking for any knitting buddies. 🙂

October Blogging Challenge! Day 17: Outfit of the Day!

Slightly late with my post, as usual! :’) Yesterday’s October Blogging Challenge prompt was Outfit of the Day! Perfect timing too, as it happened to coincide with the Sweetest Day of the Year ~ well according to the internet! Apparently Sweetest Day is all about giving candies to loves and friends, and I thought that was cute. We definitely need more LOVE and sweets in October!

So I used Sweetest Day as my outfit inspo! The dress was my very first ever Lolita dress from Bodyline which I thought would fit perfectly! Can never pass up an opportunity for frills and sweets!

Dress: Bodyline

Tights: Ardene

Jumper: Thrifted

Shoes: Thrifted

Bag: I believe off of Wish a couple of years ago. Was a nice surprise to find a bunch of sweets I had stashed in there! Apparently I haven’t used it in a while!

Accessories: The cake slice headband and donut brooch were made by me, and then various other trinkets, and of course the Ring Pop!

And just for fun, a surprise Sugar vs. sugar attack!!

October Blogging Challenge! Day 3: Outfit of the Day

I finally bought myself a full-length mirror so I’m absolutely ecstatic about being able to use it to share my outfit of the day photos!!

I kind of drove myself a little silly trying to decide what was going to be my FIRST mirror OOTD pick ~ shouldn’t it be special to showcase my kind of wild sense of style?! Maybe it’s a bit appropriate that Mad Hatter Day is right around the corner on October 6th, which is on Tuesday! The Mad Hatter is of course the host of the wild tea parties over in Wonderland and one of my favourite characters ever!

So in celebration, a quick and bonkers Mad Hatter inspired outfit!:

Stripes galore, clashing colours, twirly whirly hair, topsy tipsy teatime and of course topped off with a tilted tophat!

The dress is one of my favourite vintage thrift finds ever, and it was easy to throw on stripey socks, a BIG bow, and of course the hat tops it all off (doesn’t everyone just have a top hat kicking around just in case? You should!)

“We’re all quite mad here. You’ll fit right in!”

Ai-Kon 2019 Haul!

This past weekend was my second trip to Ai-Kon, the annual anime convention in my lovely city of Winnipeg, Canada! I went last year and was dying to go back immediately afterwards!

I was only able to go on the Friday this year because of other plans, but I was going to make my most of my couple of hours there. Fortunately my office is just a couple of blocks away so I was able to pop over at lunch to get registered (while getting caught in a torrential downpour!) and check it out quick. Then the moment it was hometime, I ran back over to get the fun started!

I decided to dress as casual Usagi Tsukino (the civilian identity of the one and only Sailor Moon!) for an extra fun-vention and so that I could sneakily wear it to work and not have to change after! I’ve always loved Usagi’s day to day outfits in the anime because they are so easy to put together, and I had everything I needed for this one and could also play undercover as Sailor Moon. Well, sort of – the odango might have given me away a little!

My big reason for going to conventions – aside from being surrounded by a sea of other happy like-minded people – is the marketplace! I’m a big collector of everything kawaii and plushie, and having it all out in front of me is my idea of paradise!

I went a bit plushie crazy and adopted *cough* 10 new friends! Unicorns and Lopeusa’s and Korilakkumas, oh my!

Hard to believe I only got TWO Pokemon things ~ Espeon and Ditto as Sylveon. There were a lot of vendors selling Pokemon plush this year, so yay for my self control because I wanted SO MANY!

My favourite find of the day was Kojika no Latte  – a little deer plush made by Amuse! I’ve been wanting her for a very long time and couldn’t even find one on ebay so I almost passed out (fawns are my favourite :3). Finding some Molang things was cool too, because I don’t have anything of him yet.

That Unicorn no Cony is MASSIVE and so snuggly. The best thing was me struggling with her half way through downtown trying to catch the bus after!

I also found these mega cute Sanrio buttons! I was so excited to find Keroppi and Chococat pins (my favourite character!).

I also picked up a blind box! It’s a Re-Ment Sanrio snowglobe. I have terrible luck with these to be honest and always get the one that I don’t really prefer… Nothing changes! I ended up getting Marroncream ~ she’s a sweet little French bunny girl which is one of the lesser known Sanrio characters. She’s actually growing on me a bit after learning more about her so I promise the initial disappointment has passed!

Last but not least, the SWEETS! *_*

I’m still working on opening them all! The Sakura Sake Kitkits are unfortunately a bit of a disappointment :/ They smell overwhelmingly like sake, but only have the faintest Sakura taste. They’re quite refreshing, but not really what I thought. Japanese Kitkats are always very hit and miss anyways ~ but I love testing them! So far, the strawberry shake sweets and the Fujiya Milky x Sanrio chocolates are my favourite.

It was a great day! Will definitely be back next year and hope to take in more of the panels and experiences over the full weekend.

As a side note, I think I might expand my blog into reviews of toys and Japanese sweets because I adore them to a ridiculous degree. So watch out! 🙂 xoxo

Happy Pie Day!!

Today is apparently National Pie Day! Of course it’s a silly holiday but I’m always ready to celebrate, because we all need a bit more FUN in life!

Pie Day calls for a special pie themed outfit for What I’m Wearing Wednesday, of course! Unfortunately I don’t have a pie dress (YET!), or an actual pie (that’s crusty!), but I have the next best thing: a homemade PIE PIN!

It’s a delicious piece of felt cherry pie! Don’t you just want to dig right in?!

I’m usually a pretty simple outfit wearer: just a dress, tights, and cardigan. So I really love a couple of thoughtful accessories – as tiny little details really bring your whole outfit together and allow you to be ANYTHING! So I threw on my pin and my day was a slice! 😀

Hope you’re having a super sweet day!
